Several International Leaders Reacted to President Joe Biden’s Decision Not to Run Again
World Leaders REACT to Biden WITHDRAWAL
President Joe Biden’s decision to forego a second term as president has prompted reactions from several international figures.
While U.S. adversaries voiced some concern, leaders of longstanding allies of the United States, such as Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, and many others, expressed their thanks for his decades in politics and his support for their nations.
According to Reuters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated, “At this time, we cannot assess the potential candidacy of [Kamala] Harris from the point of view of our bilateral relations because her contribution to our bilateral relations has not been noticed.” “She used language that was quite hostile to our nation in some of her statements, but overall, her actions regarding our bilateral relations are neither positive nor negative.”
According to Newsweek, Vyacheslav Volodin, the speaker of the State Duma, the Russian parliament, declared that Biden “has created problems all over the world and in his own country, the United States.” “He is fleeing without waiting for the elections, realizing he will not be elected.”
In contrast, Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine, commended Biden for his backing throughout Russia’s conflict in that country.
Zelensky stated, “Ukraine is grateful to President Biden for his unwavering support for Ukraine’s fight for freedom, which has been and continues to be critical, along with strong bipartisan support in the United States.” “President Biden has made a number of courageous decisions in recent years that will be recognized as his response to difficult circumstances. And we honor the firm albeit difficult decision made today.”
“For years, I’ve known President Biden. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau remarked, “He’s a great man, and his love for his country guides everything he does.” “He is a true friend and a partner to Canadians in his role as President. Thank you, President Biden and First Lady.”
U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated, “I respect President Biden’s decision and I look forward to us working together during the remainder of his presidency.” “I am confident that he will have made his choice based on what he feels is best for the American people, as he has done throughout his incredible career.”
Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany, stated that “Joe Biden has accomplished much for his country, for Europe, for the world.”
“We have close transatlantic collaboration, a robust NATO, and the USA as a dependable and good partner because of him. On X, Scholz stated, “His decision to not run again deserves recognition.”
Similar opinions were also expressed online by leaders of Australia, Spain, Poland, the Czech Republic, and other nations.
Following weeks of calls from supporters, Biden ultimately decided to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race following a dismal debate performance in late June. During this month’s NATO meeting, he met with several of the allies who showed support for his choice, despite those calls for him to withdraw from the reelection race.
