Kamala Harris’ Advisor Says VP Comments On Gun Were A Joke
Vice President Kamala Harris’ senior advisor, Keisha Lance Bottoms, stated on CNN Friday that Harris’ comments about shooting intruders were intended as “a joke,” acknowledging that she anticipated the remarks would make headlines.
In a Thursday interview with Oprah Winfrey, Harris mentioned she would shoot a home intruder, then laughed and said she “probably shouldn’t have said that.” On “The Lead With Jake Tapper,” Bottoms reinforced that the vice president was joking and noted her awareness that her words would be scrutinized.

Then why the f*ck does she even claim to have a gun…?

“Well, she was joking. I mean, obviously, the vice president’s given multiple interviews and she knows that every single thing that she says will be picked apart,” Bottoms explained. “So it was a joke and she knew that we would still be talking about it today.”

Bottoms emphasized that Harris respects the right to bear arms and supports the Second Amendment while advocating for responsible gun ownership and community safety. “So it was a joke that we’re still talking about today. But again, I think it humanizes the vice president, and I think that’s important as we are 46 days from the election,” she added.
During her first presidential debate against former President Donald Trump on September 10, Harris noted that both she and her running mate, Democratic Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, are gun owners and reassured that they are “not taking anybody’s guns away.”
Harris continues to support a ban on so-called “assault weapons” and advocates for universal background checks for all firearm purchases, including handguns. While campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020, she called for mandatory gun buyback programs for “assault weapons” and stated in October 2019 that she might confiscate “as many as 10 million guns.”
