Harris Knows Her Campaign Polling Won’t Last

MSNBC host Jonathan Capehart cautioned Democrats late this week that the recent surge in positive media coverage for Vice President Kamala Harris, amounting to hundreds of millions of dollars, may soon diminish as the initial “sugar high” begins to fade.

Capehart, who also writes for The Washington Post, made these comments during a PBS interview when asked how long Democrats could maintain their current momentum.

“It’s been a great week for the Democrats after the last three months that they put themselves through with all the yelling and screaming at each other and pushing the president off the ticket,” Capehart said. “But enthusiasm’s up. The fundraising is up. The spirit among Democrats is up. And yet all things that are up must come down. And the thing that the rank-and-file Democrats have to prepare themselves for the bad press that’s about to come, the attack that might land, the punch that might land.”

Capehart claimed that Harris is aware that her recent rise in polls might be a “sugar high.”

“The thing that Democrats also have to keep in mind is that Vice President Harris is fully aware of that, that she’s been saying to her team, right now, this might be a sugar high,” he continued. “We have to keep our eye, our focus on November. And so knowing that the vice president is thinking in that way gives me confidence that, when the momentum starts to slag or when they get punched really hard with an effective attack, that they will be ready to parry it.”

On Sunday, former President Donald Trump’s running mate, Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), led the attack Capehart feared. Vance attacked Harris over the disastrous way she handled the border.

“Oh, that was what the media called her, she assumed the title,” Vance said. “She had control over a lot of our border policy at a time when they were suspending deportations. The time they were suspending deportations, they stopped Donald Trump’s remain in Mexico policy, and they re-instituted catch and release. They basically threw open the gates of our country and now we have a ton of fentanyl, a ton of people suffering, and a ton of Americans.”
