World Leaders DEFEND BIDEN
Just a ‘SLIP of the Tongue?’
In a move that has infuriated politicians throughout Europe, Prime Minister Viktor Orban of Hungary seemed to support Donald Trump and cast doubt on President Biden’s suitability to seek a second term.
Orban posted on his official social media account on X, saying, “We continued the peace mission in Mar-a-Lago.” “During his presidency, President @realDonaldTrump has demonstrated that he is a man of peace. He’ll try it once more.”
“Visiting President @realDonaldTrump at Mar-a-Lago today was an honor,” he added in another post titled “Peace mission 5.0.” “We spoke about how to reconcile. The good news of the day is that he will find a solution.”
Orban made an unscheduled trip to Florida on Thursday, his second visit to Trump since Hungary took over the rotating EU presidency last week. He had left the NATO meeting in Washington, D.C., suddenly. Although the position is primarily administrative in nature, Orban has scheduled trips to China, Russia, and Ukraine in the last ten days. Although Orban presented the travels as a part of a peace mission, European leaders made it clear time and time again that Orban did not speak for the bloc. “The rotating presidency doesn’t represent the EU at the external level,” emphasized European Council President Charles Michel.
“A definite stance exists,” Michel said EuroNews. “This visit, paid by the prime minister of Hungary, was not a visit on behalf of the EU.” Following the revelation that on Wednesday night at a formal dinner during the NATO summit, Orban told other leaders that those who believed that Biden would win the upcoming presidential election “were like people on the Titanic playing violins as the ship went down,” the Financial Times reported. Orban went on to make headlines following this revelation.
Prior to his press conference on Thursday night, which his campaign had touted as the “big boy” press conference all week, Biden made a mistake by calling Ukrainian President Putin “President Putin” instead of Zelenskyy. During the press conference, he acknowledged “Vice President Trump’s” excellent work. “If I slow down and can’t get the job done, that’s a sign I shouldn’t be doing it,” Biden maintained. “But there’s no indication of that yet.”
According to the site, other leaders downplayed the “pessimism” surrounding Biden and asserted that the president was “fully present” during the meeting, with several supporting him in an attempt to improve his reputation. Both British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron commended the president, saying he was “in charge” and “on good form” and that he talked “clearly on the issues he knows well,” according to the BBC. “I saw him as always a president who is in charge, clear on the issues he knows well,” Macron stated. “Everyone has occasionally made a linguistic error. I’ve experienced it before, and it’s likely to happen to me tomorrow.”
Olaf Scholz, the chancellor of Germany, concurred, calling the errors “slips of the tongue” and asserting that “if you always monitor everyone, you will find enough of them.”
