Trump victory splits Democratic Party leadership struggles

Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has declared that Donald Trump’s influence and recent electoral victory have effectively dismantled the Democratic Party, leaving it without direction and plagued by internal conflicts.
Speaking on WABC 77 FM-N.Y.’s “The Cats Roundtable,” McCarthy shared his perspective with host John Catsimatidis, stating, “It is a huge mess. It wasn’t just that President Trump won the election – he has now broken the Democratic Party.”
McCarthy pointed to what he perceives as a leadership vacuum within the Democratic ranks, saying, “If you think about it, they are leaderless. There’s no message, and their polling continues to drop. They are now fighting among themselves.”

The former Speaker criticized the current Democratic leadership, particularly House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, suggesting their ineffective guidance has reduced Congress to merely opposing Trump’s initiatives.
According to McCarthy, the progressive wing of the Democratic Party, led by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senator Bernie Sanders, has become the true force within the party. “The real leaders of the Democratic Party right now are AOC and Bernie Sanders,” McCarthy said. “Those are the two that are getting the crowds.”
He further emphasized the leadership crisis, stating, “I mean what you are finding out here is the House is without a leader. What has Hakeem Jeffries done? He has no messaging. He can’t make a decision. You got AOC leading the Democratic Party now.”

She bought a Tesla.

McCarthy suggested that the current Democratic leadership’s position might be precarious, noting, “I don’t know how much longer Hakeem Jeffries and Schumer can stay leaders – they’re in hiding. Their own party is working against them.”
The conversation concluded with McCarthy criticizing California Governor Gavin Newsom’s apparent political shift, describing him as “the biggest chameleon who ever lived” for allegedly adopting more conservative positions after years of progressive governance.
