Former President Donald Trump responded to the Harris-Walz campaign’s misrepresentation of his words regarding former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) on Truth Social. The campaign had falsely claimed Trump suggested Cheney be executed by firing squad.

Trump clarified his stance, describing Cheney as a “War Hawk” who lacks the courage to fight herself. He criticized her for advocating sending young Americans to war while being unwilling to participate personally. Trump also mentioned Cheney’s father’s involvement in Middle Eastern conflicts and the resulting wealth accumulation.

The controversy stemmed from Trump’s conversation with Tucker Carlson, where he discussed Cheney’s hawkish stance on war. The Harris-Walz campaign selectively edited Trump’s words, presenting a clip that omitted crucial context.

Trump’s original statement included: “She’s a radical war hawk. Let’s put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrel shooting at her. Okay. Let’s see how she feels about it. You know, when the guns are trained on her face. You know they’re all war hawks when they’re sitting in Washington in a nice building saying, oh gee, well, let’s send 10,000 troops right into the mouth of the enemy.”

The campaign’s edited version only included the middle portion, leading to misinterpretation. Cheney and her supporters promoted the claim that Trump called for her execution.

However, even Trump critic former Rep. Joe Walsh argued against this interpretation. Walsh stated that while he opposes Trump and supports Kamala Harris, the clip was deceptively edited. He emphasized that Trump was not calling for Cheney’s execution but rather making a point about her stance on war, albeit in his characteristic manner.

Walsh criticized the spread of misinformation, noting that the misleading clip would likely receive more attention than the full context. He stressed the importance of truth in political discourse, even when dealing with controversial figures like Trump.
