Poll: Democrats Seek Candidate Over Biden

A large number of Democrats want President Joe Biden to be replaced on top of the November ballot, according to a recent poll. According to the poll, former First Lady Michelle Obama would be the number-one choice for the party if Biden bowed out of the running.

More Democrats said that they would prefer another candidate to Biden to be nominated. A full 48% said that they would like an alternative, compared to 38% who would like to see Biden stay atop the ticket.

The Rasmussen Reports poll also found that just 33% of Democrats believe that the party would choose another candidate.

When asked who they would prefer to replace Biden, Michelle Obama received the most support at 20%. Other potential candidates, including Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and others were considered.

However, the option of “none of the above” polled above all specific names with 27%.

The poll followed a spate of negative news stories for the president. His son Hunter is facing a number of federal charges related to alleged firearm and tax allegations. Furthermore, inflation has been hotter than expected, stoking further concerns about the economy.

The poll regarding Biden’s place on the ticket also came after a number of polls showed former President Donald Trump leading Biden in both national and statewide polling.

Trump has shown particular strength in a number of states that could decide the 2024 election, including several that Biden carried narrowly in 2020. This includes a 5% lead in the average of recent polls in Michigan.

In national polling, Trump now leads by more than 2% according to the latest average of polls by RealClearPolitics. In the ten most recent polls, Trump leads in eight of them.

Furthermore, Trump holds a lead in the most recent Harvard-Harris poll, besting Biden by a large 6%. In the most recent HarrisX and Morning Consult polls, Trump is leading the president by 4% each. A Rasmussen Reports poll from earlier this month had Trump ahead by 6%.
