Trump has a Call with Zelensky for the First Time Since Leaving Office

Trump SPEAKS With Zelensky About FUTURE

Presumably for the first time since leaving office in January 2021, former President Donald Trump had a phone conversation with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine.

In anticipation of a potential second term as president, a few international leaders have begun to make modest overtures to Trump as his chances of winning the November election seem to be increasing. Zelensky has been one of these, greatly depending on US assistance in his conflict with Russia. Everyone on the call agreed that it was fruitful.

Zelensky, according to Trump, congratulated him on securing the Republican presidential nomination and denounced the “heinous assassination attempt” that occurred last Saturday. Additionally, he “remarked about the American people coming together in the spirit of Unity during these times,” the former president claimed.

Notably, though, Trump persisted in taking an equivocal position about Ukraine, denouncing the conflict in its entirety and pleading with the parties to reach a peaceful resolution.

“I appreciate President Zelenskyy reaching out because I will end the war that has destroyed countless innocent families and brought peace to the world as your next president of the United States,” he continued. “It is possible for both parties to reconcile and work toward a settlement that puts an end to the hostilities and creates a way for prosperity to follow.”

Zelensky emphasized the bipartisan nature of support for Ukraine while corroborating some of the information disclosed by Trump.

“Ukraine will always be appreciative of the United States’ assistance in bolstering our defenses against Russian terror.” Every day, Russian attacks on our cities and towns persist, the speaker continued. “We decided to meet with President Trump to talk about how to create a just and sustainable peace.”

Trump has promised to put an end to the conflict in Ukraine as soon as he becomes office. Although he hasn’t disclosed all the specifics of the plan, some pro-Ukraine advocates are concerned that it would involve giving away territory as Russia continues to exploit its strategic advantage.

There is a phone conversation history between Trump and Zelensky; in 2019, one of the calls served as the basis for Trump’s first impeachment.
