Trump Wins South Carolina Primary

Former President Donald Trump won a significant victory in South Carolina over the state’s former Gov. Nikki Haley Saturday. Trump hailed the win, citing the fact that he received the most votes of any candidate in a major party primary in the state’s history.

Trump led Haley by about 20% in the important primary. The former president said that the victory was “a little sooner than we anticipated. And even a bigger win than we anticipated.”

“I have never seen the Republican Party as united as it is right now,” Trump said.

“I was just informed that we got double the number of votes that has ever been received in the great state of South Carolina,” Trump said.

The former president’s win was carried by a large cross-section of Republican voters, especially evangelical Christians.

The former president was joined by a number of South Carolina elected officials, including Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Tim Scott (R-SC). Scott said that he did not want to speak for long in order to give Trump more time. Graham was booed by the crowd during the victory celebration.

The former president’s win was not unexpected. All polls in the state showed him with a significant lead over the former governor.

The result was announced immediately after the polls closed.

Despite Trump’s win, Haley said that she would not be leaving the race. She said that the results showed “South Carolina’s frustration with our country’s direction. I’ve seen that sense of frustration nationwide.”

“This has never been about me or my political future. We need to beat Joe Biden in November. I don’t believe Donald Trump can beat Joe Biden,” Haley said.

Trump has carried every major contest in the Republican primary season so far. He began with a significant win in the Iowa caucus, defeating both Haley and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R). The former president then followed his first win with a significant victory over Haley in New Hampshire.
