Trump To Appeal Gag Order

Former President Donald Trump said this week that he would sue over the “unconstitutional” gag order against him from Judge Juan Merchan as part of his ongoing New York criminal trial. The statement came as the former president closed his third week in the case stemming from an alleged brief relationship with former adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

The former president’s lawsuit came just days after Merchan argued that Trump violated the gag order. Trump is barred from criticizing the prosecution, court officials and the jury.

As a result, Trump was fined $9,000 for alleged infractions.

The former president said that the judge was “totally conflicted” as the judge weighed four new alleged gag order violations. Trump said that he would appeal what he described as an “unconstitutional gag order.”

“Nobody’s ever had that before. And we don’t like it, and it’s not fair. Other people are allowed to do whatever they want to us, and I’m not allowed as…the Republican Party nominee, and the one who’s leading Biden by a lot, I’m not allowed to talk,” he said.

“So I’m not allowed to testify because of an unconstitutional gag order. We’re appealing the gag order. And let’s see what happens,” said the former president.

On social media, the former president continued his criticism of the judge. He wrote that the country could not “LET THIS RADICAL LEFT, CORRUPT AND HIGHLY CONFLICTED NEW YORK DEMOCRAT JUDGE INTERFERE WITH THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION OF 2024 — THE MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION IN THE HISTORY OF OUR COUNTRY.”

“THE USA IS TRULY A NATION IN DECLINE! REMOVE THE UNCONSTITUTIONAL GAG ORDER,” he wrote.

Trump said that the court case was going well so far despite what he called “ridiculous” proceedings.

We’re seeing all of the crime that’s going on outside, and to be sitting in this courtroom is just ridiculous. It is election interference at the highest level that’s never been done before in our country. And I shouldn’t be campaigning right now,” he said.

Trump spent much of the rest of Thursday visiting with cheering crowds. The former president visited an FDNY firehouse in Manhattan where he brought pizza for the firefighters. Trump received a warm welcome from the first responder and was seen posing with the smiling group.
