Trump Says Migrants Increasing Housing Costs

Former President Donald Trump said this week that the millions of migrants who have entered the country since President Joe Biden took office in 2021 are increasing the cost of housing in the United States. The move came as Biden signed an executive order earlier this week to limit the number of border crossings, sparking criticism from Republicans.

“In total, crooked Joe has imported more illegal aliens than the populations of 40 out of 50 states,” he said. “This is unsustainable.”

The former president referenced the increasing costs of mortgages and rents in the country.

He said “Housing costs are skyrocketing, absolutely skyrocketing, because we have 15 million new migrants. We have no place to put them. We have no place to put them, and that number is growing so that we have absolutely no place.”

The former president also said that if Biden won a second term he would allow “every single illegal alien he let charge across our borders into a voting citizen.”

“By contrast, I want to send Joe Biden’s illegal aliens back home, where they belong,” the former president said, adding “Biden wants an invasion — I want a deportation.”

Trump’s comments came as home prices have increased by more than half in the last five years. This includes increases in some of the locations hosting the most migrants.

Trump’s comments came as more than seven million illegal immigrants are estimated to have entered the country since Biden took office. This includes more than three million migrant encounters last year, which set an all-time record.

In December 2023 there were more than 300,000 migrant encounters, which became the new monthly record.

Republicans have criticized Biden for not doing more to stem the flow of illegal immigrants into the country. This includes Biden’s decision early in his term to reverse a number of Trump’s executive orders.

Furthermore, the Biden administration’s decision last year to end Trump’s Title 42 asylum policy has been cited as a key cause of the sharp spike in attempted migrant crossings.
