Trump Opens Major Lead Over Biden

A recent poll showed former President Donald Trump with his largest lead over President Joe Biden with one pollster. The news came as Biden also struggles with the lowest approval rating of a president entering into his fourth year in modern American history.

NBC News released a new poll this weekend showing Trump with 47% of prospective voters, while Biden lagged behind with 42%. The difference could mark a substantial recovery for the former president in his campaign to take back the White House.

Trump’s lead is the largest in any of NBC News’ 16 polls.

The former president’s lead also marks a substantial improvement since September. In the NBC News poll from that month, both candidates each had 46%. Prior to that, Biden was leading Trump by 4% in July 2023. However, Trump has held a lead since November of last year.

Furthermore, when the poll asked about third-party candidates, Trump expanded his lead. The former president would receive 41% in a match-up that included candidates from the Libertarian Party, the Green Party and the No Labels organization. In this scenario, Biden would receive just 35% of the vote.

The same poll also showed a major enthusiasm advantage for Trump. When asked about whether voters were excited for each candidate, 20% said they were about Trump. However, only 10% said the same about Biden.

Biden received more bad news last week, as an NBC News poll showed its largest lead for Trump against the president. The 5% difference is one of the largest gaps in recent months and followed another survey that showed Trump with a 6% lead.

The president struggled in a series of polls taken in battleground states. The news may mean that Trump could take most of the swing states he lost four years ago.

The president marked just a 38% approval rating in January, which is significantly lower than Trump’s rating at the same time. Furthermore, Biden ranks alongside other candidates who sought another term and then lost.
