In a significant announcement, President-elect Donald Trump has named Kash Patel as his choice for FBI Director, completing his key administrative appointments two months ahead of taking office.
Trump announced the selection on Truth Social, praising Patel’s credentials. “Kash is a brilliant lawyer, investigator and ‘America First’ fighter who has spent his career exposing corruption, defending Justice, and protecting the American People,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Saturday night.
“He played a pivotal role in uncovering the Russia, Russia, Russia Hoax, standing as an advocate for truth, accountability, and the Constitution,” he continued.
“This FBI will end the growing crime epidemic in America, dismantle the migrant criminal gangs, and stop the evil scourge of human and drug trafficking across the Border. Kash will work under our great Attorney General, Pam Bondi, to bring back Fidelity, Bravery, and Integrity to the FBI.”

Patel’s extensive background includes roles as a public defender and Justice Department attorney in national security. His previous service in Trump’s first administration encompassed various intelligence and national security positions, making him a favored choice among MAGA supporters who seek reform within the bureau.
Despite his impressive credentials, Patel’s strong allegiance to Trump has drawn criticism from Democrats, particularly following his service as a National Security Council official and other high-ranking positions.
This opposition was evident when former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe appeared on CNN, expressing grave concerns. “No part of the FBI’s mission is safe with Kash Patel in any position of leadership in the FBI,” McCabe warned during his conversation with Kaitlan Collins.

McCabe, who was dismissed by Trump shortly before his retirement, further stated that “It’s inconceivable to me that an outsider with no experience in the organization, no knowledge of the work and the scope of authority that’s involved there could perform adequately.”
While some questioned Patel’s confirmation prospects, supporters emphasize his extensive Justice Department and national security experience. A source close to the transition team defended the choice to The Post, noting his accomplishments in various security sectors.
Elon Musk, set to co-lead the administration’s Department of Government Efficiency, endorsed Patel after discussions about establishing a declassification office for greater government transparency. “Good idea,” Musk responded on X.
The selection follows recent Washington tensions over Trump’s previous consideration of Matt Gaetz for attorney general. Other candidates considered for the FBI position included Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, former Rep. Mike Rogers, and Richard Grenell.
