This demonstration follows a pattern of similar protests that occurred during the previous year’s holiday season. In 2022, activists disrupted Christmas celebrations across multiple U.S. cities, with demonstrators in New York City chanting “Christmas is canceled” and engaging in civil unrest. The protests extended beyond New York, affecting holiday travel in Chicago where protesters blocked a major route to O’Hare International Airport, while Memphis saw disruptions to Christmas shopping activities.

The targeting of religious services at St. Patrick’s Cathedral isn’t unprecedented. Earlier in the year, both pro-Palestinian groups and climate activists interrupted an Easter service at the same location, demonstrating a recurring pattern of protests at this prominent religious venue.
