New Poll Projects Large Trump Win

A new poll of the upcoming South Carolina Republican Party presidential primary indicates that former President Donald Trump will likely hand former state Gov. Nikki Haley (R) a resounding defeat. Should the polls bear out, this would be the fourth major victory for the former president in a row.

According to a recent CBS News poll, Trump carried a large majority of the potential vote, grabbing 65% of potential South Carolina Republican voters. Haley trailed with a distant 30%.

Haley has a partial advantage due to her status as the former governor of the state. However, Trump has the endorsement of both of the state’s senators, as well as current South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster (R).

Within the poll, 76% of Republican voters said that Haley is not part of the MAGA movement. A full 87% of those who said they would support Trump have “firmly decided” on their choice, as compared to 78% for Haley.

The former president has held a number of rallies across the Palmetto State to significant crowds. At one rally at Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina the crowd was so large that Trump had to separately speak to the overflow audience outside.

Trump started the nomination process with a significant victory in the Iowa caucus in January, causing Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) to exit the race. He was endorsed by both DeSantis and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

The former president then defeated Haley in a one-on-one race in New Hampshire, where the state’s primary rules allowed for non-Republicans to participate. Trump then carried a major win in the Nevada caucus. In the state’s primary election, Haley lost to the option to select no candidates as Trump was not on that ballot.

It is unclear whether Haley will continue in the race following the South Carolina primary. A loss in the state that she was governor of could be a marked embarrassment. However, Haley has vowed to stay in the race, although it appears at the moment that Trump has a continued commanding lead.
