Mexican Military Shakes Up Gulf Cartel in Mexican Border Raids

Gulf Cartel SHAKEN By Military RAID

One of the main Gulf Cartel factions was shaken up by a series of raids in the Mexican border state of Tamaulipas, which also resulted in some high-profile arrests. Owing to pervasive corruption in Mexico, one specific Gulf Cartel faction had eluded attention from federal and state authorities for almost a year. But in recent weeks, it seems that there has been a breakdown in the connection between the two parties, which has resulted in several raids by the government and deliberate attacks by cartel gunmen.

Over the weekend, one of the primary operations was conducted in Tampico, Tamaulipas. Top Escorpiones and Ciclones group commander Antonio Guadalupe Perez Dominguez was taken into custody by federal authorities, according to a written statement released by the Secretaria de Seguridad y Proteccion Ciudadana (SSCP). The Mexican federal police are now known as the Secretaria de Seguridad y Proteccion Ciudadana.

One of the Gulf Cartel’s two primary divisions, the Escorpiones are headquartered in the border city of Matamoros. For more than a year, the cartel faction has been engaged in combat over profitable drug and people smuggling routes into Texas. The Escorpiones had been embroiled in a slew of internal disputes in recent weeks, with several of their senior leaders betraying one another. Their competing Gulf Cartel factions profited from the wars.

Perez Dominguez was apprehended, and authorities immediately took him via plane to Mexico City. He was taken by authorities to the federal jail facility Altiplano, which is located in the Mexican state of Mexico’s municipality of Almoloya de Juarez. In addition to allegations related to drugs and weapons, he is facing federal organized crime.

In the border city of Matamoros, officials have conducted seven more raids since the first one, purportedly targeting stash homes controlled by the Gulf Cartel. Authorities apprehended three cartel operators and took multiple drug loads and guns during the searches. The following three people have been identified:

Daniel Isidoro N aka “El Dany”, who is listed as a lieutenant within the Escorpiones faction of the Gulf Cartel.

Leonardo Daniel “N” aka “El Pepino” who is in charge of communications and is believed to run the video monitoring centers throughout the city.

Perla Guadalupe “N” aka “La Cunada”  who is listed by authorities as a financial operator for the Gulf Cartel.
