Democrat Support Drops To Record Low, Expert Says

Voter support for the Democratic Party has hit unprecedented lows, according to former Clinton pollster Mark Penn, who expressed his astonishment during a recent Fox News appearance.

A CNN/SSRS poll conducted in early March revealed the Democratic Party’s favorability rating has dropped to a mere 29%, marking a historic decline. During his interview on “Hannity,” Penn expressed his disbelief at these numbers.

“I’ve never seen anything like this in over 40 years of polling. The Democratic Party ratings have collapsed from a 47% favorable down to 29, 27 in some of these polls, and that’s an incredible loss of moderate, working-class voters,” Penn said.

He observed that the party appears to be contracting to a core group of progressive advocates, with figures like Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez becoming the face of the party’s platform nationwide.

“Those [are the] kinds of voters that the Democratic Party needs to win elections, and it’s being shrunk to a base of left-wing advocates like Bernie Sanders and AOC who were touring the country carrying the Democratic banner. That’s not helping,” Penn added.

In response to recent electoral setbacks, including Republican victories in the 2024 elections securing both congressional chambers and the presidency, Democratic organizations have launched counteractive measures. The Democratic National Committee, along with other party organizations, began their “People’s Town Halls” initiative in Iowa, focusing on Republican-held districts across the country.

The party has particularly focused its opposition on President Donald Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk, which has implemented federal workforce reductions. While DOGE’s cost-cutting initiatives have received considerable public support, they’ve faced strong resistance from Democratic leadership.

The division within the Democratic Party has become increasingly apparent, with Ocasio-Cortez publicly criticizing the Trump-supported government spending legislation on social media, labeling it a “slush fund” benefiting Trump and Musk. However, Democratic Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman has dismissed his party’s opposition, characterizing it as “total theater.”
