Colorado Official Who Attempted To Remove Trump From Ballot Faces Misconduct Charges

Republicans in Colorado filed a motion against Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold (D) for her role in attempting to remove former President Donald Trump from the state’s primary election ballot. Griswold’s effort was supported by the state’s high court before it was overturned unanimously by the U.S. Supreme Court.

Two Republicans filed the misconduct complaint, arguing that Griswold committed “numerous instances of misconduct.”

According to the misconduct complaint, the authors argue that “Secretary Griswold has engaged in calculated and malicious attacks on the rights of an entire class of Colorado voters. Griswold has used her platform to make false statements about President Trump and disenfranchise those voters who support him.”

Griswold did not back down after the Supreme Court ruled on March 4 that Trump could not be removed from the ballot by state.

She said that her decision was backed by the Colorado Supreme Court, which she claims declared that Trump was disqualified under the ‘insurrection’ clause of the 14th Amendment.

The move came after the state’s House sought to impeach Griswold for her role in attempting to bar Trump from the ballot. The effort is supported by Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO).

State Rep. Ryan Armagost (R) wrote about the attempted impeachment effort against Griswold. In a letter written by himself and Colorado State House Minority Leader Rose Pugliese (R), they argued that it was “imperative” that the articles of impeachment be scheduled for a vote.

“Since being elected, the Secretary of State has used her position as a platform for her partisan political ideology and has proven herself unfit for this elected position,” they wrote.

They argued that Griswold “has consistently been criticized for her lack of transparency and questionable bias. Her partisan political beliefs are constantly the subject of her communication to the state indicating her lack of respect for facilitating unbiased and fair election.”

They wrote that her effort to remove Trump from the ballot was done “on the basis of accusations and personal feelings,” which they argue “demonstrates a lack of professionalism and integrity.”
