Avenatti May Aid Trump In New York Trial

Disgraced attorney Michael Avenatti signaled openness to helping former President Donald Trump this month amid the former president’s trial in New York. Avenatti emerged as a major opponent of the president during his time in office and now appears to be turning over a new leaf.

The attorney is currently serving 19 years in prison over multiple charges stemming from his representation of Daniels, including charges of extortion, fraud and embezzlement. he was accused of stealing from his client including using identity theft and wire fraud.

Avenatti said that he would be “more than happy to testify” for the president and had been in contact with Trump’s legal team for almost a year.

It was not clear whether or not Avenatti would have a chance to testify or not. However, the attorney said that his charges and Trump’s charges were both “politically motivated.”

“I think that we were both targeted by the justice system,” he said. “There’s a lot of people on the left that were very concerned about my potential rise within the Democratic Party and my potential rise in Democratic politics. And the fact that I was not someone that was easily controlled.”

Avenatti once represented former adult film actress Stormy Daniels. During this period he became an overnight media darling due to his outspoken opposition to Trump. Alleged payments from Trump to Daniels are at the core of the New York case against the former president.

The attorney was accused by Daniels of defrauding her. He was convicted and is currently serving a stint in prison.

There has been no response from the Trump campaign regarding whether or not it would accept the offer.

Avenatti even speculated about running for president in 2020 amid the ongoing media spotlight before the criminal cases against him.

The attorney had claimed that several other women were offered hush money from the former president, although the arguments did not make significant headway.
