White House Dedicates Easter Sunday To Transgender Memorial

President Joe Biden signed an order signifying March 31 as a “Transgender Day of Visibility,” sparking significant criticism for placing it on the same day as Easter Sunday. Biden made the move after wishing Muslims a happy start to the Ramadan holy month.

Biden signed a proclamation Friday reading that the White House honored the “extraordinary courage and contributions of transgender Americans and reaffirm our Nation’s commitment to forming a more perfect Union — where all people are created equal and treated equally throughout their lives.”

The president’s statement read that he proclaimed “March 31, 2024, as Transgender Day of Visibility. I call upon all Americans to join us in lifting up the lives and voices of transgender people throughout our Nation and to work toward eliminating violence and discrimination based on gender identity.”

“My Administration is working to stop the bullying and harassment of transgender children and their families. The Department of Justice has taken action to push back against extreme and un-American State laws targeting transgender youth and their families and the Department of Justice is partnering with law enforcement and community groups to combat hate and violence,” the proclamation reads.

The move received swift criticism from many conservatives.

Rep. Alex Mooney (R-WV) noted the date of the proclamation.

“What a coincidence on the timing, right? This is a direct assault on Christianity. Yet another attack on religion and traditions by this administration,” wrote Mooney.

“The only thing to declare on Easter Sunday is Alleluia, He Is Risen,” wrote Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R).

Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN) called it an attack on Christianity.

“It’s evident the left is determined to undermine our religion and traditions,” she wrote on X. “This isn’t just blatant disregard, it’s intentional,” she wrote.

The elected officials were joined in their criticism by former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy. He questioned the use of Easter Sunday as the same day for the dedication of the Transgender Day of Visibility.
