Premium Suite Upgrades Coming to United’s Fleet
United Airlines has unveiled plans for a significant upgrade to its long-haul international business class experience. The new Boeing 787-9 aircraft will feature United Polaris Studio suites positioned at the front of the business class section. These premium spaces will be 25% larger than current business class accommodations and include features that rival luxury hotel rooms. The carrier plans to add approximately 30 of these planes to its fleet by 2027, with the first delivery expected by the end of 2025.
The highly anticipated Polaris Studio suites will feature eight lie-flat, all-aisle-access seats with privacy doors and an extra ottoman for guests. Each suite will be equipped with 27-inch 4K OLED screens, Ossetra caviar service, Starlink connectivity for high-speed internet, luxury skincare amenities, and exclusive entrée options. Standard business class seats will also see significant improvements, with upgrades to suites featuring sliding doors and larger 19-inch 4K OLED screens.
Enhanced Dining and Comfort
United Airlines has invested over $150 million in food and beverage improvements this year alone. The upgraded dining experience in Polaris business class will include a new onboard grab-and-go snack bar and mid-flight meal options featuring regionally influenced tapas. One standout addition that has gained popularity among passengers is the ice cream sundae cart, which offers various toppings for a customizable dessert experience. Passengers are also treated to champagne upon boarding and have the option to pre-order their main course.
“We already deliver a superior international experience and fly to the most places across the Atlantic and Pacific – these new innovations provide a more premium experience overall, give customers even more reasons to choose United, and set our airline up to grow into the next decade and beyond” Chief Commercial Officer Andrew Nocella.
Comfort extends beyond dining with premium amenities designed for rest and relaxation. Polaris passengers receive Saks Fifth Avenue bedding including a plush pillow and duvet. For those seeking the ultimate sleep experience, mattress toppers are available upon request. Additional amenities include noise-reducing headphones and premium toiletries to refresh during the flight. The seating configuration of 1-2-1 ensures that every passenger has direct aisle access, with window seats offering the most privacy.
Exclusive Ground Services and Lounge Access
The premium experience begins before boarding with business class tickets including two free checked bags up to 32kg each and Premier Access for priority check-in and baggage handling. One of the most valuable perks is access to United Polaris lounges, which far exceed typical airport lounges in terms of amenities and comfort. These exclusive spaces feature deluxe shower rooms, an à la carte restaurant, extensive buffet options, and a private rest area for travelers with longer layovers.
United’s upgraded digital experience complements the physical improvements with their highly efficient mobile app. The application provides real-time notifications about gate changes, boarding times, arrival updates, and even baggage carousel information. This seamless integration of technology helps streamline the travel process from booking to baggage claim. When combined with the upcoming fleet improvements, United aims to provide what some are calling “the best thing that’s happened to air travel” in recent years.
