In a significant move on Wednesday, President Donald Trump issued an extensive executive order targeting Susman Godfrey LLP, the prominent law firm known for representing Dominion Voting Systems in defamation cases related to the 2020 election, including the notable $787.5 million Fox News settlement.
The firm, which continues to pursue defamation litigation against Trump allies Rudy Giuliani and Mike Lindell, now faces comprehensive federal scrutiny. Trump’s directive mobilizes multiple government agencies, including the Department of Justice, Office of Management and Budget, and intelligence organizations, to launch an extensive investigation into the firm’s practices, citing concerns about discriminatory conduct and alleged misuse of legal processes.

This action aligns with Trump’s broader initiative to challenge what he perceives as a coordinated effort between legal entities, government officials, and progressive organizations. The executive order specifically targets Susman Godfrey for allegedly using litigation to suppress political opposition and challenge election integrity questions.
The executive order comprises six detailed sections outlining specific actions against the firm. The first section challenges the firm’s diversity initiatives, particularly race-based employment practices. Subsequent sections implement serious restrictions, including the revocation of security clearances, suspension of government facility access, and a comprehensive review of federal contracts involving the firm.
“This is about rooting out law firms that use our justice system as a political weapon,” said White House staff secretary Will Scharf. “Susman Godfrey has made millions helping silence questions about the 2020 election. That ends now.”

Susman Godfrey joins five other prominent law firms facing similar scrutiny under Trump’s initiative. These include Covington & Burling, known for its representation of Hunter Biden and Chinese technology interests; Perkins Coie, associated with Hillary Clinton and the Steele Dossier controversy; and the trio of Paul Weiss, Jenner & Block, and WilmerHale, identified as firms protecting corporate and political interests from accountability.
The order emphasizes protection of national security interests while maintaining compliance with existing legal frameworks, marking a significant escalation in Trump’s campaign against what he views as politically motivated legal practices.
