Texas Efforts Help Bring Down National Migrant Crossings

Efforts by the state of Texas played a major role in reducing the flow of migrants into the United States, according to data from federal law enforcement. The state’s Operation Lone Star plunged Texas into a legal battle with the Biden administration but has also shown significant signs of success.

The United States saw a significant decline in the attempted crossings into the country in March, falling to under 140,000. This is less than half of the record figure of 300,000 of December 2023. The number is also lower than in March 2023.

The effort came after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) launched Operation Lone Star, which utilizes the state’s National Guard and police to halt migrant crossings along the Rio Grande, especially at the crucial Eagle Pass crossing.

“Construction on the border wall continues in Zapata County. While the Biden Administration refuses to secure the border, Texas works around-the-clock to deter and repel illegal immigration along the southern border,” said Abbott.

Abbott wrote on social media that the ongoing effort to build a military base along the U.S.-Mexico border continued at a rapid pace.

Abbott said that the Texas National Guard base will “house, train & equip National Guard to do even more to secure the border.”

He said that the current state efforts have reduced migrant crossings into the state by 72% with a goal of 100%.

Texas’ efforts have gained the support of dozens of governors across the country, with some states sending their own National Guard to aid the border protection efforts.

The state was also the site of an effort by a mob of migrants to overwhelm the border and enter the country illegally last month. The illegal aliens attacked several members of the Texas National Guard and one even attempted to seize a weapon from a soldier.

The migrants made it through the first border checkpoint before being halted. Hundreds of migrants were charged following the incident.
