NYPD Sees Increase In Officer Injuries

Law enforcement officials in New York City announced that injuries to New York Police Department (NYPD) officers have increased since the recent influx of migrants into the city. The news came just weeks after a high-profile incident was caught on camera showing a group of migrants attacking several NYPD officers.

NYPD data revealed that the number of officers injured increased significantly in 2023. The total for last year reached almost 5,400. Furthermore, in the fourth quarter of 2023, a total of 1,286 officers were injured during issues with suspects.

The number of officers injured varied by precinct. The overall injury rate of NYPD officers in 2023 was 20% higher than in 2022. The previous figure was up significantly from the 2021 total.

The increase in injuries has also corresponded with an increase in crime since the increase of migrants. According to NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell said that there had been an “uptick” of crime since the start of the migrant crisis.

Several weeks ago a number of migrants attacked NYPD officers near a migrant shelter near Times Square. Seven migrants were later arrested, all of whom were foreign nationals. Two allegedly attempted to flee by entering a bus headed to California before being apprehended a second time.

Following the attack on the NYPD officers, there was another major incident in Times Square. A migrant youth shot a tourist in the popular destination. The minor attempted to flee the city but was apprehended.

New York has taken in more than 170,000 illegal aliens over the last several years and has struggled to deal with the increased strain. The migrants have been housed in a number of public buildings, shelters, hotels and even a former airfield.

The city has announced significant budget cuts to help offset the cost of the ongoing migrant crisis.

New York City has also seen an increase in personal and property crime following the start of the George Floyd riots in 2020. This included a significant jump in car thefts last year.
