Attorney General Pam Bondi took decisive action on Tuesday by establishing a Second Amendment Task Force, communicating the initiative through a departmental memo that emphasized the need to elevate Second Amendment rights to their proper constitutional status.

According to NBC News’ reporting of the memo’s contents, Bondi declared that the historical treatment of Second Amendment rights as inferior to other constitutional protections would no longer continue, stating, “For too long, the Second Amendment, which establishes the fundamental individual right of Americans to keep and bear arms, has been treated as a second-class right. No more.”

The announcement drew support from Representative Riley M. Moore (R-WV), who expressed his approval on X by emphasizing the Second Amendment’s fundamental role in safeguarding other constitutional rights, stating, “The Second Amendment is the premier constitutional right — it guards all others.”

This development follows recent policy changes implemented by FBI director and acting ATF director Kash Patel, who dismantled the ATF’s zero tolerance policy earlier this week. This Biden-era policy had previously allowed authorities to revoke licenses from firearms dealers for minor paperwork violations.

Additionally, Patel indicated that other Biden administration ATF regulations are under review, specifically those concerning the definition of “engaged in the business” and restrictions on AR-pistol stabilizer braces. These policies could face potential modifications or reversals as part of the administration’s broader review of firearm regulations.
