Anti-Israel Protesters Attack Cops

Anti-Israel protesters allegedly attacked police during a demonstration at New York University. The incident occurred as students at a number of expensive colleges set up tent cities as part of protests for the Palestinian cause.

During the protests Monday some of the protesters started to throw bottles at officers trying to break up the occupation of a public plaza. During the incident, one officer was attacked with a chair. The suspect in the attack has not been identified.

At least 150 people were arrested following the raucous events.

Following the incident and arrests a number of protesters went to the headquarters of the New York Police Department (NYPD) carrying flares. The protesters marched in a mass chanting “Gaza.”

The events at NYU occurred amid other significant clashes, including police tearing down tent cities at Yale and Columbia Universities. The protests have grown to other colleges this past week.

Students at Columbia were forced to attend classes remotely due to the ongoing protests. Jewish students there received warnings about the potential of further unrest. Columbia also saw a series of fresh protests including faculty members backing the students.

More than 100 Columbia students were arrested last week after occupying a building on campus even after warnings to leave. One of the arrested included the daughter of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN). Omar’s daughter claimed to be the victim of chemical weapons after a student opened a gag device to emit a smelly odor.

At Yale a Jewish student was stabbed in the eye by a Palestinian flag.

The protests have grown in scale and ferocity enough to receive condemnation from prominent Republicans and Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA). The White House issued a statement over the weekend condemning acts of antisemitism during the protests.

Last week also saw protesters blocking the Brooklyn and Golden Gate Bridges. There were also protests that restricted traffic to Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. Another demonstration blocked access to part of Dearborn, Michigan using a car convoy leading to several arrests and car seizures.
