Stefanik Reportedly Rises Among Trump VP Picks

Former President Donald Trump is reportedly weighing Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) as his vice presidential nominee. Stefanik has emerged as a top defender of the former president and has quickly risen through the ranks of the House Republican leadership.

The New York Republican is reportedly on Trump’s shortlist for the position and has been positively referenced by Trump on several occasions.

Stefanik was among a group of Republican dignitaries who joined Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida earlier this month. While the former president did not say that the meeting was a recruitment event for his potential pick, several individuals who may be likely choices were there.

Stefanik has built a significant profile over the last several years and especially during the 2024 Republican presidential primary battle. She was the first member of the House to publicly endorse Trump and has been a stalwart defender of Trump during his current legal issues.

Earlier this month the representative criticized New York Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing one of the criminal trials against the former president.

“Democrat Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan, who donated to Biden and whose adult daughter is raising millions from Merchan’s unprecedented trial of President Trump, knows he must recuse under New York statute,” she said.

“And the New York State Commission on Judicial Conduct just reprimanded Merchan for his inappropriate political donations in 2020. America is starting to understand Merchan is a corrupt judge, presiding over blatant Biden Democrat lawfare and election interference against Trump—that is lining his family’s pockets. Merchan has disgraced our justice system in New York.”

She has also gained notoriety for her statements in the House regarding the growth of radicalism on college campuses. Her questioning of several high-profile college president led in part to two major resignations.

In addition, she also captured headlines earlier this month in a speech before Israel’s parliament, the Knesset. While there she criticized the foreign policy of President Joe Biden and said that the world, and Israel, were safer places under Trump.
